Radical! - A Zine / Manifesto / Visual Reportage. The capstone project for a senior seminar in Illustration & Visual Reportage, taught by D. B Dowd, at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Featuring original illustrations, interviews, and the gritty exuberance of its subject-matter, this exploration of “radical bicycle clubs” and celebration of late-2000s D.I.Y. subculture is a passionate articulation of the underground zeitgeist as it felt (to this visual reporter, at least) in the early wake of the Great Recession.

 

 

 

Founded by CEO Alexis Von Tobel in 2009, and acquired by Northwestern Mutual in 2015, Learnvest was a financial planning technology start-up that strove to make financial planning accessible and affordable for everyone.

As a lead marketing designer, I created designs for email campaigns, sign-up flows, landing pages, video graphics, advertisements, and assorted other digital assets to advance the brand’s mission of fostering financial literacy and leveraging behavioral science to help regular folks take control of their financial lives.

I worked with Bryan Ray Turcotte of Kill Your Idols Inc., to curate, design the cover and layout, as well as oversee the printing of this special edition reissue of photographer Donna Santisi’s cult classic 1978 book of black and white images—among the first to capture the dynamic transitionary period between West Coast New Wave and the emerging punk rock scenes.

As an in-house freelancer at Meat & Potatoes, I worked under the Art Direction of TJ River and Jen Montgomery to design the typography for the illustrations included in Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead, by Neil Strauss for itBooks (Harper Collins.)
